Paige Peterson

When Paige was 5 years old she was getting ready to begin Kindergarten.   We took her to her doctor for a chicken pox vaccine and they found a tumor
on her kidney that was the size of a grapefruit.  She was admitted to the hospital and the tumor (along with her kidney) were removed.  We were sent
home.  A year later she relapsed with more tumors in the same area.  They were removed.  We then began an intense course of chemotherapy for 6 months
followed by radiation and a bone marrow transplant.  After this, she went into remission for 3 years.  Two years ago she relapsed again.  This time
the tumors were in her bones.  We began another chemotherapy and then an experimental treatment in San Francisco.  she is now doing a Phase 1
clinical trial.  She is the first person at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to do this treatment.  she will happily tell everyone that she is a
"guinnea pig" and is helping the doctors learn about how to treat Neuroblastoma so that other children can get well.
Paige is our joy.  She is the strongest and bravest person that I know.
She is my hero.
