DAVID

David was diagnosed on May 6, 2003 with Glioblastoma - Stage IV brain cancer.  He was operated on 5/13/03 and began a rigorous protocol of radiation and chemotherapy.  In May 2004 his MRI (he gets them every 6 months with and without contrast) indicated that the tumor had grown back again - right temporal frontal lobe.  He was operated on this time at Miami Children's Hospital and had gliadel wafers implanted in the cavity where the tumor was removed.  He then took 6 weeks off to regroup and decide what he wanted to do.  In 9/04 we flew to Duke Tumor Center and met with Dr. Gururangan - it was determined that Dave would be on an aggressive protocol...CPT-11, tamoxifin and celebrex (which he is not currently taking due to FDA warnings).  Dave continues to get MRI's every 6 weeks and is being treated at his West Palm Beach doctor's office in collaboration with Duke.  Thank you for keeping Dave and his siblings in your prayers.

Child's Interests and favorite Things: David LOVES skateboarding.  He was all set to play tackle football when dx with brain cancer in 5/03.  He's very social.  Even on his bad days...he'll lay down, or play x-box games...and then bam!  He's out skateboarding again.  Great attitude!

       Michael - Good Student, Loves Cars, computers (& computer games), electronics - wants to be an engineer

Pets: Eric the Cat (Eric is actually a girl!)

Anything Else you would like us to know about your child: Like many of these courageous kids, Dave could be having a bad day...but is someone asks him how he's doing, he'll answer, "GREAT!"  He just wants to be normal.  He started lifting weights and doing push-ups so he can be ready for bathing suit weather!
